Short-Term Absences Policy
Most organizations realize that employees have certain legitimate reasons to
miss work and, therefore, provide for limited paid absences, particularly for
sickness or injury, even though they are not required to allow these absences.
Organizations with seasonal work or critical staffing requirements are notable
exceptions to this practice. Employers should consider the following issues when
creating a short-term absences policy.
This policy discusses absences away from work that will generally be less than a
two-week period, such as short-term illnesses, bereavement leave, voting, jury
duty and religious holidays. This policy is a modified PTO (paid time off) bank;
modified because it doesn’t include vacation.
